again: say cheese! soy cheese!
when it comes to new vegan products i DO want to believe the hype!
there was a lot of buzz around this new vegan cheese alternative all the way from Greece called Santeciano by a company called Viotros, so when Formosa finally stocked it i simply had to get my greedy hands on a block of cheese. it didn’t hurt that my mother kindly paid for it because 400g go for € 7,90.

Cafe Drechsler is conveniently located across the street from Naschmarkt and has great opening hours*; and previously unbeknownst to me, they serve a mean Cafe Latte. fabulous foaminess!

the DM chain doesn’t need my free promotion but i have a lot of love for that place because their vegan/vegan-friendly store brands, alnatura and alverde, have been making my life a little cheaper and therefore easier.

i grew up watching my grandmother cook, she is an efficient and good cook and a wonderful gardener, too. last night i channeled her chef-spirit and re-created my favourite meal of hers: Linsengulasch mit Wasserspatzen!

no-egg salad sandwiches
you must have noticed by now that i like quick and easy meals, this no-fuss version of a no-egg salad is no exception. great on any sort of bread; i picked tramezzini bread and had the sandwiches with a side of chips.

in an ideal world we would grow and make all of our food ourselves, we would only shop at the farmer’s market or the family-owned store around the corner, but in the real world we grab our environmentally friendly cloth tote bags and walk to the nearest supermarket and if we are lucky they have their own organic, vegan-friendly line of products, like Zielpunkt/Plus does.

Sunday Baking: Hazelnut Cake Experience
i found this recipe, searching for quick and easy cakes, via chefkoch.de. the recipe is originally for a blackberry cake but i sprinkled the batter with almonds instead of pressing blackberries into the top. i also added an additional cup (half soy milk, half water) of liquid because after following the instructions faithfully i ended up with a dough rather than a batter.

you usually only really see cute little sandwich shops like Naked Lunch in cities like London, Berlin and New York. now Vienna has its very own tiny, stylish spot w/ brownies & cupcakes in the windows. don’t get your hopes up, though, they have no vegan sweet treats.
their soy latte, well, actually i had a cappuccino, was good, smooth w/ a nice dome of froth.

i have never been a big fan of curries but the all vegetarian, extremely vegan-friendly Dharamsala in the up-and-coming 16th district has shown me the light. now i am a believer!
the chef is vegan, so you don’t have to worry about hidden ghee in any of the dishes, just mention that you are vegan and the friendly staff will hook you up.

sunday cooking: vegan chicken quesadillas &...
we decided to do some cooking today and ended up with some tasty chicken quesadillas
this is our really easy and filling version of the tex-mex classic.

Baeckerei Felzl recently opened a few minutes from my headquarters and how pleased was i when i saw “soy milk available” on their board? very!
the very foamy latte comes w/ no extra charge for soy, they use Joya soy milk and when they get the temperature just right this is actually one great latte.

Quick home-made dinner: Udon Stir-Fry
this doesn’t really have a recipe. i just threw all of the ingredients (tofu, oyster mushrooms, chinese cabbage, soy sprouts, zucchini, bok choy) into a pan, tofu first, soy sprouts last. added ginger oil and sesame oil and voila!
